Jacob's Blessing

Attn: Family!
We are blessing Jacob on June 12th @9:00 AM, the chapel by the temple. If you would like to come over after Sacrament Mtg. and visit for a bit, you're welcome! Please don't feel obligated...we know how busy people are. Just wanted to make sure that everyone who was interested, knew.

Going Private

I don't know what happened to my other post about making this blog private! Anyway...I'm sure it was written better than this one, but I am typing this one one-handed and must be brief! First Bath

Jakey HATES to be naked! His arms flail out to the side. He screams his guts out. After a bit, his cute little chin quivers. So, bath time is a bit loud. This was Jacob's first bath.

Yard Work

While I was supposed to have my hubbs undivided attention during his week off for Jacob's birth, other things often took priority. We unexpectedly had the big kids for the first 6 days we were home, and that pretty much consumed his attention those days. Then, we happened upon some decent weather, and free help for our disgusting yard. (3 cheers for Dad Ward!) So the two of them worked their guts out! (With a little help from Ezra.)

Ezra started out watching Grandpa and Daddy work on cutting down the tree. Then came in for his tools (Which he calles toodles) to help out! (Take note of the front yard pre-revamping!)


Darrell and his Dad rototilled and raked the crud out of the front yard. Really hard work!




This is the outcome so far...border done, grass seed planted, watering like crazy! (Sorry not a good pic. It was getting dark!) Yippee!

Jaundice

When Jacob decided he wanted to finally be here, he came very fast! I pushed for only about 10 minutes, and he was here. But, because he came so quickly, his cute little face was bruised, and he developed jaundice. So, when we left the hospital his biliruben (I have no idea how to spell these things, and don't have time to figure it out...) levels were slightly elevated. Over the next few days, they went up considerably, and we had to put him on something called a billiblanket. It is difficult to see, but at the end of this hose, was a flat, flexible light that we had to slide up his little onsie as often as we could.


He was on it for approximately 10 days. Finally, on Wednesday, after about his 7th billiruben test at the hospital, we were told that his levels were up enough that he could stop using the blanket. Hurray! Poor little guy. He was pretty lethargic those first several days, but has started to perk up quite a bit! He has even found his little temper...I get to experience it every time he is hungry, poopy, or naked. Diaper changes are loud at our house!

My Hubbs...

My husband was so thoughtful...Jacob was born the day before our anniversary, and two days before my birthday. So, while I was in the hospital he set out to run some "errands". When he returned, he brought me a darling outfit set for Jacob, a new pair of comfy sandals (haven't worn them yet because he graciously thought my feet were a much smaller size than they are), and some beautiful roses. I so appreciated his thinking of me during such a crazy time. I love you honey! Happy 4th anniversary! I can't believe how time flies!

Ezra's Allergic Reaction

Jacob's arrival came with as much joy as there was excitement! The second night in the hospital we received a phone call from my sister informing us in as careful way as possible (so as to not panick the new-again mommy) that Ezra was having a really big reaction to something. She said he was covered in welts and rash. I was horrified, and felt so badly for my Bubba. This was not what we needed in addition to a new baby, and some pretty big changes in schedule, etc, for Ezra. Until I saw it in person, I had no idea how severe it really was. At times, Ezra reminded me of the actor in the movie Hitch, who has an allergic reaction and his ears swell and stick out, as well as other parts of his face.
We eventually figured out he was having a reaction to some meds he was on for an earache. (Non-penicillan, as he has had so much penicillan, he is basically immune to it!) He was so miserable! We had to rush the nurses to dismiss us quickly so that we could get Ezra to the doc. The doc had us give him some allergy meds, which helped with the severity, but the poor kid has been pretty miserable for the last 2 weeks. He also gave us a prescription for a steroid, but we wanted to avoid that if we could.
Yesterday, we went to do some allergy testing to see if there are some triggers for all of his sinus infections/ ear aches. Initially, the doc thought he was going to be allergic to a lot of things, but several of them went away and left only grass and sage (just like Daddy)! So, we are now on a daily nose spray, in hopes of avoiding as much sickness as possible. Poor kiddo! he has basically been sick ever since he turned one. I sure pray this helps!
